Harvey Weinstein Arrested from our Client’s Charges of Sexual Assault in People v Weinstein (May 25, 2018)

Brooklyn, NY — This is an emotional moment. Today, the Manhattan District Attorney charged Harvey Weinstein with felony sex crimes.

We are relieved and grateful that justice is coming.

We also mourn the cases where justice never came because survivors weren’t believed or too much time had passed or nobody cared. Today is big. But sexual violence is still happening. A victim or offender’s fame should not matter. These cases must be prosecuted.

Harvey Weinstein’s arrest came to pass as a result of our client’s bravery in coming forward and the tenacity of law enforcement. We are grateful for the extraordinary work and commitment of the NYPD and the District Attorney’s office. And we praise our other clients who made this moment possible because they too came forward.

Over the next few months, we’ll be hearing from Harvey Weinstein’s lawyers, saying the victims are liars, that their client is being tried “by the movement” or the press. Those are the desperate excuses of somebody who thought he’d never get caught.

By coming forward, our client has sacrificed her privacy and peace. We respectfully ask that she be left alone.

The arrest and future trial of Harvey Weinstein is but one victory in the war against sexual violence.

That war is far from over. Believe victims.
