On September 8th, the first day of school in New York City, Public Advocate Letitia James launched a new campaign to protect students. Carrie had the pleasure of speaking with PA James at the press conference on the steps of Dept of Ed headquarters.
Since going public with our cases against the NYC DOE, C. A. Goldberg, PLLC has been working with PA James and we were delighted by her three point campaign to make schools safer:
1. Transparency from DOE: PA James sent a letter to DOE demanding information regarding its compliance with the State’s Dignity for All Students Act (DASA) and Title IX. The letter calls for disclosure of over 30 data points.
2. Legislation: New legislation is being introduced to require regular and continued reporting on DASA
3. Parents’ Rights: PA James launched a know-your-rights awareness program for parents, including the right for their kids to be free from harassment and how they can report it.
As we said at the press conference, this is a huge day for NYC kids!
