C.A. Goldberg, PLLC statement on the Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade

Now, more than ever, abortion providers need our support.

C.A. Goldberg, PLLC is doubling-down on our commitment to support, protect, and defend abortion providers, clinics, advocates, volunteers, and patients.

Today the Supreme Court released a decision that overturns Roe v. Wade, the landmark 1973 decision that established the constitutional right to abortion.

Overturning federal abortion protection leaves it up to the states to decide, and many states have already laid the groundwork to immediately ban or limit access to this vital healthcare. 22 states currently have laws on the books, or pending, that can now be used to restrict the legal status of abortion.

In our anti-abortion harassment practice, we have seen that threats, violence, intimidation, and personal attacks have long been a deliberate strategy of anti-abortion extremists to reduce and eliminate abortion access.

Extremists have, for decades now, focused their attention on terrorizing abortion providers, clinics, patients, organizations, and advocates. There is a long history of overt physical violence, coupled with in-person and digital harassment techniques that have increased in frequency and intensity in recent years.

Nobody deserves to be attacked and villainized for helping others. Unfortunately, this is what abortion providers have had to endure, paving the way for their profession to be further restricted or outright criminalized.

Anti-abortion Supreme Court justices and their supporters believe that they can take away a long-held right from half of this country because of what they believe. That they can tell an abortion provider that has trained for years and dedicated their life to helping others in need that they can no longer do so. They are wrong.

States like New York, California, Washington, and Illinois have taken steps to protect access to abortion and contraception. Activists across the country are preparing to fight.  People are waking up to the fact that a long-held and established constitutional right can be taken away and left to our gerrymandered and unresponsive state legislatures.

We know that this latest curtailing of our long-established constitutional right to abortion has rewarded anti-abortion extremists’ violent acts and harassment campaigns and undermined the rule of law.  We do not expect these anti-abortion tactics to stop with the end of Roe, but only intensify – including in the states where abortion remains legal and accessible.

We see that abortion provider’s jobs will become infinitely more difficult – in fact, even more dangerous – in light of this decision. Allied advocates will be under increased attack for the assistance that they provide.  We will be here.

We want to take this opportunity to highlight and honor the people who have and will continue to dedicate their lives to fighting for abortion access.

The abortion providers and allies that we have come to know through this work are some of the most selfless, compassionate, professional, dedicated people that we have ever met.

We stand today in solidarity ready to face whatever is coming, and will be here to fight back every step of the way.
