From Victim to Warrior: Norma tells her story in “Stalker Takedown: Battle For Justice”

Client Relations Manager Norma Buster shared her story in an exclusive interview with Strictly Stalking podcast.

“These sex crimes are designed to silence the victim, to shame the victim into silence. For me, taking control back means sharing my story and not being shamed into silence. I want to open the door to make it easier for people to ask for help when they go through this too.” – Norma Buster, survivor and C.A. Goldberg, PLLC Client Relations Manager

In this personal interview marking #StalkingAwarenessMonth, Norma shares candid details other survivors will recognize from their own journeys: tactics her ex used to stalk her, the moment she realized it had all gotten way out of control, and her struggle to find help.

While attending college, Norma broke up with her boyfriend of two years. He told her that she was making a mistake, then began sending her cryptic and manipulative messages lying about being physically attacked, and deaths in his family. Later he posted a profile impersonating her on Pornhub.

  • 85% of stalking victims are stalked by someone they know (61% of female victims by a current or former intimate partner).
  • 76% of intimate partner femicide victims have been stalked by their intimate partner.

She went to the police but was sent away for “not having enough evidence”, Norma’s mother found Carrie who fought with Norma to obtain a lifetime restraining order to protect her (you can read more about this in The New Yorker!).

Norma’s tough journey forged the path to her successful career in victims’ rights, and today she shares her story to open the door for others going through similar experiences.
